Valentino Achak Deng Foundation

I just wanted to share with you all the link to the Valentino Achak Deng Foundation website...

http://www.valentinoachakdeng.org/

I think it's definitely worth checking out because there's tons of pictures, videos, and slideshows of him, his village, and even Dave Eggers to accompany our reading. It's very interesting to see where he came from.

  1. I also visited the website and it helps you understand him better in a visual kind of way. The way he lived and how he wants to help those in need. He has not forgotten where he came from and his heritage. Most people would rather forget the past, such a painfully past. I cannot imagine what I would feel if I had experienced his life. Let alone being a girl in such a conflict zone. The interview with Dave Eggers and Valentino of the three young girls shocked me.
They have to sacrifice their education to stay home and do all the chores for the boys. It is not like they are prohibited to attend school but because of their circumstances, they are girls they feel that is their duty to continue the traditions that were set upon them.
They seem to accept it all; most girls have not hopes of making it to secondary school in Marial Bai.
